FEDERAL TIRES SPEEDSF CHALLENGE @ WEATHERTECH RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA - AUGUST 12, 2018 - ROUND 8
SpeedSF at WeatherTech Raceway - Round 8
Itching for more Monterey musings after their Monday, August 6 event SpeedSF took over WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for three straight days of action.
This SpeedSF Challenge took place on Sunday, and while there were no records broken this round, the 19 participants made for an interesting Challenge, especially in Group S1 where we featured 6 drivers.
Group S1
In Group S1, hard charger Scott Smith took home 1st place in his Sapphire Blue Porsche 911 GT3 and achieved a lap time of 01:37:817. 2nd place finisher Dom Stone barely squeaked past Bruce Lee in his Camaro after setting a 01:38.095 lap time. Bruce Lee and his 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE put down a 1:38.290 lap time, still good enough for 3rd place!
Group S2
Another close round of racing in this group, with Gary Yeung taking home 1st place in his Dirty Mango Honda S2000. His lap time of 01:39.667 was just enough to put him ahead of Jeremy Lui's 1:39.820 GT4 lap time! This was a great 2nd place finish for the newcomer! 3rd place finisher Geoff Richards rounded out the group with a 1:42.542 lap time in his 2008 Porsche 997S.
Group S3
While there was only one participant in the group, Will Ngo was able to put down a good lap time of 1:48.532 in his 2013 BMW M3. Awesome job!
Group S4
Another set of close lap times between the top 2 finishers in this group! 2nd place finisher Joe McGuigan was oh so close to getting 1st place with his FRS' 1:47.845 lap time. Mikhail Butenko's lap time of 1:47.558 put him solidly on top of the group thanks to the excellent driving displayed in his 1992 BMW 325is. Safely in 3rd place was Jim Harrison in his 2016 Mazda MX-5 with a lap time of 1:50.005. Excellent driving by the entire group!
Group S5
2 participants, 2 winners! Joe Chang destroyed the competition in his Miata, putting down a 01:49.771 lap time, while Karan Shertukde, also in a Mazda Miata, had a 1:54.824 lap time. Awesome job!
Group X
Last but not least, we have Kanishk Parashar in his 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, who tore through the track with a 1:40.628 lap time. That is fast!
CONCLUSION
A great job to the drivers who won their places and THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the SpeedSF Challenge!
